David Brown : Partner and Member of the LLP
David has three children and eight grandchildren. He is a law graduate of The London School of Economics and qualified as a solicitor in 1972. David is a past president of The Suffolk and North Essex Law Society. He deals mainly with commercial property and insolvency, and elderly client issues. David is a qualified mediator.
Interests outside the law are reading and clay-pigeon and target shooting. |

Bryan Johnston: Partner and Member of the LLP
Bryan originally came to Colchester having served with the
British Army. He has three teenage children. Bryan left the
Army after commanding an infantry company during the Gulf War.
He is a former Tendring District Councillor and stood for Parliament
at the 1997 election.
Bryan specialises in commercial and civil litigation and is a qualified mediator. |

Lauren Sadler: Partner and Member of the LLP
Lauren is a graduate of Anglia University and qualified as a solicitor in 2001. She specializes in matrimonial and childcare. Outside the office she looks after her three small children and enjoys horse-riding when time permits. |

Sue Mullis
Sue has been with the firm since 1975 and qualified as a Fellow
of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1994. She specialises
in Probate and Wills. Sue is also a Commissioner for Oaths.
She is a widow with two children. Sue enjoys walking and is

Alison Hanna: Senior Solicitor
Alison, from County Down, qualified as a solicitor in 1997. She obtained a degree in English Law from Dundee University before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. Alison completed her training contract in Colchester before commencing a position in Clacton specialising in family law.
Alison joined GoodyBurrett in 2000 and trained as a Collaborative Lawyer in 2006 http://www.clear.gb.com. Alison is a member of Resolution http://www.resolution.org.uk. Her interests include horse riding, skiing, hill walking and sketching. |

Robert Macaulay: Licensed Conveyancer
After being educated at Felsted and London University Robert
farmed on the family farm in North East Essex for 30 years.
He was involved both at local and national level in farming
policy matters. He particularly enjoyed his work on the Essex
NFU Legal Assistance Committee. He changed career in 2000 and
joined GoodyBurrett as a part of the conveyancing team with a special
interest in land transactions and agriculture. Robert's interests
include the countryside, bird watching, walking, music, reading
and bowls. |

Robert Everett : Solicitor Associate
Robert is also a law graduate, and qualified as a solicitor in 1998. His speciality is company and commercial work and deals with a volume of business sales and acquisitions. Outside interests are mechanical engineering and motorcycles. |

Andrew McPhee: Litigation Paralegal
Andrew claims to be interested in law having spent most of
his formative years as a Magistrates clerk. However the firm’s
genealogist suggests his interest in law stems from when the
McPhees came ashore at Harwich having jumped ship on-route
to a penal colony. Andrew is married with four sons. |

Anna Morley: Solicitor
Anna is a graduate of the University of Leeds and qualified as a solicitor in April 2007. Whilst doing her Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School, she came top in her year for Family Law and won the Resolution Family Law prize. Anna specialises in family law and enjoys the diversity that this area of law offers. Anna arranged our Lexcel accreditation and was responsible for the successful three peaks challenge. |

Donald Fraser Howe: Solicitor Associate
Don qualified as a solicitor in 1976. He has a great deal of experience in many areas of the law, including land disputes, probate, conveyancing and business sales and acquisitions. Don is married and has four children and numerous grandchildren. Outside interests include sailing. |

Victoria has just returned to the Wills, Trust and Probate department having finished her maternity leave.

Aileen Hirst: Trainee Solicitor
Aileen Hirst is now embarking on her second career having left the City in 1998 to look after her two sons whilst of pre-school age.
She graduated from Essex University in 2006 with a First Class Honours degree and recently completed the LPC at Anglia Ruskin University, gaining Distinction. Aileen is the firm’s current trainee solicitor. Her interests include skiing, entertaining and supporting her sons’ local football teams.

when Sue joined us from Collins Tovell, we were pleased to
note that she is actually called Marian. Marian is a highly
trained Probate Secretary and therefore it has been no surprise
thatnow works in the Family Department. |

Jane Maher: Legal Secretary
Jane did not have any hobbies or interests on her CV she just
had “ key skills”. This is not an ability to get
into a building when it is locked… or so we thought.
Remember the wild child who drove the Black Mini in the Italian

David Lawton : Consultant
David read law at Oxford and was admitted as a solicitor in 1967. He is a Higher-Court Solicitor Advocate in criminal matters and is a past chairman of the national Legal Aid Practitioners’ Group. David is a non-practising consultant of the firm, but has a wealth of knowledge and experience on which we can all draw. He is now able to spend more time on his passion for sailing. |
